THE DURATION OF PRIVATE YACHTS WITH FOREIGN FLAGS IN TURKISH TERRITORIAL WATERS HAS BEEN EXTENDED
According to the statement made by the General Directorate of Investments and Businesses of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism; in order to eliminate the negativities caused by the Covid-19 epidemic; the duration of foreign flagged private yachts in Turkish territorial waters has been extended. Pursuant to Article 29 of Law for the Encouragement of Tourism; it is possible for foreign flagged marine tourism vehicles to stay in Turkey for travel, maintenance, repair, aquaplanning or wintering purposes and according to the provisions of the Sea Tourism Bylaw, this period can be extended for 5 more years by the Ministry. In this regard, Article 46 of the Sea Tourism Bylaw is arranged as follows: "The period of stay of private yachts with foreign flags, which have stayed in certified sea tourism facilities for five years and used by their owners at least once during this period, may be extended by the Ministry for another five years." However, as is known, travel restrictions are imposed due to the Covid-19 outbreak and aggrievements are experienced due to force majeure. Thus, it has become very difficult to provide the requirements in the Sea Tourism Bylaws and to perform the exit procedures from our country. In this context, in order to prevent possible malfunctions, foreign flagged private yachts that cannot complete their exit procedures from Turkey are provided with convenience. Accordingly; the residence time of foreign flagged private yachts that have entered Turkey after the date of 01.01.2015 or whose time extension procedures have been completed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism but the residence time in Turkey is expired before the date of 31.05.2021, is extended without any application or transaction.
